The Festival will take place during the Jewish holiday of Sukkoth (September 26-28, 2010). It will be presented in conjunction with "Urban Action" - the second Bat-Yam Biennale of urban culture. The Festival and the Biennale– each one of them distinctive and special in its own realm – will create together a unique urban celebration that will allow a new perspective on art and performance in the urban environment.
The theme of the 14th Festival is "Music – Urban Sound and Rhythm". All international shows are chosen according to this theme, in order to present a variety of musical genres and styles. These include vocal and instrumental ensembles, mobile machines that produce music and more. The emphasis is on street theatre that is musical, rather than on open-air concerts; music combined with clowning and acrobatics, music as an integral part of urban dance and street theatre, and music created in- and by the urban environment.
The Israeli program will also be dedicated to the theme of music. Street theatre artists, experimental theatre groups, visual and performance artists, choreographers, clowns, jugglers, acrobats, singers, mixed groups and any one wishing to create original live performance in which music is a principal component, are invited to submit their proposals to the artistic committee of the Festival. Proposals dealing with city soundscape, urban acoustics, dance and movement will be considered as well. Artists are also encouraged to respond to the theme of the Bat-Yam Biennale, which is "Reciprocal Relations Between the Temporary and The Permanent in the Urban Space."
Proposals for site-specific work and collaborations among performing artists, architects and visual artists are welcome.
The Festival will maintain its competition framework for original shows. The show that is selected by the Festival's international jury will be awarded a prize. Proposals for performances should be submitted to the Festival's artistic committee. Those which are found suitable for development and performance will receive production budget and artistic consultation by the Festival.
Artists whose proposals are selected for participation in the Festival are fully responsible for all production elements and processes.
Proposals should be accepted at the Bat-Yam Municipality by the end of January, 2010 (for Israel artist January 7) in three printed copies containing the following information:
Performance description, number of participants and a first draft of the show components (scenography, costumes, sound and lighting, site and estimated budget), curriculum vitae of the principal artists, visual documentation of previous work (if relevant).
The proposal text should also be mailed to the e-mail address.
Replies will be sent to the artists by March 11, 2010. Material sent to the artistic committee will not be returned.
Please send your proposals to the address below.
